Fayette school athletic field 8.19.09

Posted in 2009 August

“Friends 4 the Fields” exists for one purpose: to make athletic facilities at Fayette’s new school a reality.

The group is charged with creating goals for the facility and planning fund raisers and other projects to support the effort. The first meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 in the school cafeteria.

The Friends group was formed in conjunction with the Fayette Athletic Boosters following a meeting last month with an architect. A proposed layout for school athletic fields was presented and some rough costs were discussed

The architect’s proposal shows a baseball and softball diamond, a concession stand and a running track on the property east of the school.

Due to the construction costs, the project will be approached in phases, with land preparation listed as the initial step.

All school district residents are invited to participate in the meeting and offer ideas. Involvement from many people is desired, with idea that “community partnerships will broad team-building and leadership opportunities.”

Anyone who is unable to attend the meeting next Wednesday but is still willing to offer ideas, labor, materials or donations should call Debra Leininger at 419/237-2951 or Wendy Kessler at 237-2589.
