Lyons Chicken BBQ to expand 7.8.09

The annual Lyons Chicken BBQ is expanding this year to include a few new events. This year’s festival is scheduled July 25.

KING & QUEEN PAGEANT—Three age groups will be represented in the first BBQ pageant. The King and Queen division is for children from 11 to 14 years old; the Prince and Princess division is for ages seven to 10; and the Jr. Prince and Princess is for ages three to six.

The winner in each division will receive a crown and a U.S. Savings Bond. All contestants are invited to participate in the festival parade.

To enter the competition, fill out a form available at the post office by 4 p.m. Friday. A $10 entry fee is required along with a wallet size photo.

Photos of contestants will be on display at local businesses and “votes” will be recorded by donations. The top fund-raisers in each division will be named the winners.

CAR SHOW—Antique, classic, hot rod, muscle, modified and special interest vehicles are all invited for the car show.

The registration fee is $10 or $15 on the day of the show. Registration forms are available at the post office.

Door prizes, trophies and a 50/50 drawing are planned. Participants are urged to dress appropriately for the 50s-theme show.

SOFTBALL—Registration costs $125 for the men’s and co-ed tournament. For information, call RJ at 419/923-4681.

Chicken dinners will be served starting at 11 a.m. July 25. The parade will follow at 1 p.m. and children’s games are scheduled from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

A DJ will provide entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.
