Some valuable information will be served up with a lot of fun in the Fulton County Health Department’s Summer Day Camp in Fayette.
The free, week-long camp starts July 13 and registration is required.
The theme of the camp is “Let’s Turn Up the H.E.A.T.” referring to Health Eating and Activity Time.
Games, crafts and physical activities are planned as children learn about fire, sun and water safety, the importance of physical activity, heart health, nutrition and bike and pedestrian safety.
“There will be guest speakers each day,” said Gina Veres who is helping to organize the event.
The first special guest will come from the Gorham-Fayette Fire Department. A fire truck and the county smoke house are also expected. The smoke house enables children to learn how to escape from a burning structure.
“Every day will be something different,” Veres said.
On the day that puts a focus on good nutrition, for example, children will learn the importance of breakfast, healthy snacks and family meals.
Children will be offered a healthy snack very day of camp.
Camp enrollment is limited to the first 15 children from grades one through six. Registration is required to help with planning.
The camp will meet at the south shelter house across from the library from 9 to 11 a.m.
