Morenci Kiwanis Club collecting items for Mott Children's Hospital 5.20.09

Posted in 2009 May

Morenci Kiwanis Club members will help restock activity supplies for Mott Children’s Hospital again this year.

Community members may donate new items to the “Fill the Pool” project. Items may be dropped off in the child-size swimming pools at Stair Public Library, Dollar General, First Federal Bank or United Bank & Trust until June 15.

The needed supplies include disposable cameras, bubbles, journals, gel pens, crayons, markers, colored pencils, books, paint brushes, craft kits, games for all ages, stuffed animals, DVDs, action figures and Barbie dolls, CDs, Band Aids, size 13 and 15 knitting needles, yarn, and white t-shirts in all sizes.

During the last two years, community collections have filled a mini van to overflowing.

Trauma dolls

Kiwanis members are also making trauma dolls to donate to the hospital. A trauma doll is a small doll that doctors can write on with markers to show the child where the doctor must correct their health issue.

Kiwanis members sew the trauma dolls and senior citizens at Morenci’s Senior Center stuff them and add a ribbon. So far they have completed nearly 80 dolls.
