Fayette residents reminded of swimming pool ordinance 5.13.09

Posted in 2009 May

Eventually the weather is going to warm and swimming pools will be uncovered. With the community pool out of service, additional private pools are likely to appear in the yards of Fayette residents.

Regulations are in force for swimming pools with the aim of maintaining safety.

Pools cannot be located closer than 10 feet to a property line. This includes any walks or accessory buildings used with the pool.

The pool or the entire property on which is located must be walled or fenced to prevent uncontrolled access by children from other properties or from the street.

The fence or wall must not be less than five feet in height and should be maintained in good condition, with a gate and lock.

The ordinance applies to any private swimming pool—whether in-ground, above the ground or portable—capable of containing water to a depth greater than 18 inches or is six feet or more in diameter.
