Boosters' donut sales a success 4.22.09

Morenci football coach Tom Saylor, owner of Tom’s Donuts, expected students and booster club members to sell about 150 dozen doughnuts in a fund-raising effort he set up—maybe 200 at the most.

By the time the final order was placed, the tally reached 450. Saylor was amazed. Booster groups in other communities never sell more than 140 dozen.

“I underestimated the power of the Morenci Bulldogs,” Saylor said to assistant athletic director Joe Farquhar. “It’s awesome.”

Come football season, he hopes opponents will underestimate the Bulldogs, as well.

The Boosters will send volunteers to Saylor’s doughnut facility to help transport the goods back to Morenci Saturday morning. Students who sold doughnuts should pick them up at 8 a.m. at Wakefield Park for delivery.

Some extra doughnuts will be available to purchase for $10 a dozen to support the Morenci Athletic Booster fund raiser.

Saylor is donating all profits from the fund raiser to the Morenci sport designated by each doughnut buyer.
