Alex Craig earns State Degree from FFA 4.15.09

alexcraig.ffa.jpgThree Morenci FFA members earned awards at the state convention last month.

Alex Craig earned his State FFA Degree. David and Daniel Stutzman were members of award-winning teams in state competition.

All three are FFA members through the LISD chapter.

Craig was one of nine county students to earn a State FFA Degree. Others were Beth Mills, Rachel Travoni, Rachel Lewis, Amanda Foster, Alicia Rellow, Jacob Carpenter, Eric Keller and Mike Nicolos.

The award is based on successful work in a Supervised Agricultural Experience that includes an investment of at least $2,000 or 500 hours of work. Candidates must also demonstrate leadership ability, plan and complete chapter activities, participate in five activities above the chapter level and serve as a chapter officer. Craig is this year’s chapter president.

Craig intends to study diesel mechanics at Owens Tech following high school, while maintaining a 1,200 head hog operation through Archbold Elevator.

David Stutzman joined Beth Mills, Rachel Travoni, Bryce Downard and Megan Curtis on the Ag Issues team and earned a silver award. The group staged a reënactment of the old TV show “Crossfire” in which they debated the use of corn for fuel or for food.

 Daniel Stutzman joined Jacob Halsey, Shanon Brown, Allison Pate, Amy Welke, Cortland Bowles and John Wielfaert on the Greenhand Conduct of Meetings team and the group was awarded a silver award.

 David Stutzman also received the Outstanding Junior Award, along with Bryce Downard, Veronica  Townsend, Arnold Gust and Alex Mahrle. The award is based on their Supervised Agriculture Experience, grades and FFA participation.
