Weatherization grants offered 3.25.09

The State of Michigan has announced that $325 million in stimulus money has been allocated statewide. Of that, Community Action Agency (CAA) will receive $5.5 million to provide weatherization services to homeowners and renters in Lenawee and Hillsdale counties.

Weatherization services include installation of attic or wall insulation, weather stripping, caulking, window repairs, air leak repairs, and furnace, refrigerator and hot water heater testing. CAA also conducts energy audits and provides health and safety measures such as fire and carbon monoxide detectors.

The current weatherization program has shown savings of 25 to 30 percent in utility costs using an average of $3,000 per home.

CAA is committed to helping the economy by purchasing local, Michigan and U.S. manufactured products to complete the projects.

The program is free to homeowners or renters, however income eligibility requirements do apply. For example, a family of four with an income of up to $44,100 would be eligible. An additional $7,480 should be added for each family member.

For more information, call CAA Lenawee at 800/438-1845 or CAA Hillsdale at 800/750-9300.
