March is Reading Month, signaling the time for Morenci Elementary School’s annual Community Reading Night.
Organizer Melissa Elliott has several events planned for the March 16 event, ranging from guest readers to musical entertainment to refreshments. Reading Night is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The event is open to anyone from the public—not only for those associated with Mrs. Elliott’s first grade classroom—but reservations must be made to plan for refreshments. Call the school at 458-7504 to reserve a place.
The theme for this year’s event is “Books are Brain Food: Reading is Delicious.”
Mrs. Elliott will present a menu of choices from which students and parents can select.
Activities in classrooms include “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” with Holly Bella; “Cheese, Peas, Chocolate Pudding” with Brigell Bovee-Vernier; a Reader’s Theater with Tatum Penrod, and more.
In the Reader’s Theater, children will read a script from a story, with each child taking the part of a character in the book.
Among the guest readers lined up that night are John Craig, Kelley Burrow, Ruth Marlatt, Paula Grieder and Janet Rollins.
A used book sale and swap is also on the menu.
In the gymnasium, music teacher Keith Filipek will direct a performance by students at 7:10 p.m. Pizza and ice cream sundaes will be served from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m.
