Financial aid night planned 2.11

Posted in 2009 February

Siena Heights University is offering free financial aid assistance to high school and college students and their families at “Financial Aid Friday” from 2 to 7 p.m. Feb. 27 in Dominican Hall on the Siena Heights campus.

The program is offered to any students regardless of where they plan to attend college. Professional financial aid experts will be on hand to guide students and parents through the process of filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2009-10 academic year.

“By attending Financial Aid Friday and filing a FAFSA that day, students will be considered for the maximum eligibility for state and federal financial aid,” said SHU Director of Financial Aid Chris Howard. “The state of Michigan deadline is March 1, 2009. We hope area students will take advantage of this opportunity.”

Those attending should bring copies of their 2008 Federal 1040 income tax forms (for both student and parent) or W-2 form if taxes haven’t been filed. Computers will be available on site, and Siena Heights University financial aid specialists will help students file their FAFSA online that day.

No registration is necessary, however, it is recommended that parents and students apply for their Personal Identification Number (PIN) before attending. They can do so by visiting the U.S. Department of Education PIN website at www.pin.ed.gov and register. The PIN serves as an electronic signature for the online form. However, those who do not have a PIN can still attend—a paper signature page can be printed out and mailed to the Department of Education.
