Interest expressed in reopening Charles Fay Village 1.14.09

Posted in 2009 January

The Charles Fay Village senior center complex on Morenci’s side has remained empty for more than a year.

The fate of the facility was the hot topic at last Thursday’s Talk @ Two discussion group meeting at Stair Public Library.

A story in the Jan. 7 Observer quoted Tedra White of ProMedica saying that if people are interested in living at Charles Fay, the facility will be reopened.

Several people attending the discussion meeting could name someone who might like to take up residence there, but concern was expressed about whether a sufficient number of people would be interested to justify reopening the facility.

Are you interested in an independent living facility in your future? Do you know somebody who might be? Perhaps there’s an elderly relative living alone in another state who would welcome the chance to live closer to family.

Would an assisted living facility make more sense? Or perhaps a combination of both? What do you think? Members of the discussion group want to gauge the level of interest and support in the community for re-opening Charles Fay Village.

Stop in the library during regular hours (Monday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 1 to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) to fill out a short survey or call 458-6510 to give your opinion by phone. An e-mail can be sent to [email protected]
