Holiday day events are coming soon in area communities with Christmas just three weeks away.
The annual lighted parade begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. Parade entries are asked to begin lining up at the high school parking lot.
It’s still not too late to join in the procession, said Rachel Barron of the Town and Country Festival Committee. Just show up at the school and contact a committee member about where to line up.
The committee is urging that Santas not be included in the parade. Leave that to the real Santa Claus who will be part of the procession.
Following the parade, Santa will visit with children at Wakefield Park where hot chocolate and cookies will be served from the concession stand—now decorated as a gingerbread house.
In addition, the Morenci Area Chamber of Commerce will give away Morenci Money, a special currency that can be used among the dozens of Chamber member businesses.
Looking ahead, the festival committee has scheduled its annual cookie sale at the fire hall Dec. 20. Home-made baked goods from some of the area’s finest bakers will be on sale.
“Christmas in Fayette” moves outdoors this year onto the Village Green.
FFA members will present a live nativity and school choir members will sing carols. The Christmas tree will be lit and Santa will visit with children in the former railroad ticket office on the Green.
The Fayette Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event will also include cookies and hot chocolate to help warm up guests.
The Parkers Corners gift shop will remain open in the Opera House throughout the event, scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.
The annual Christmas Parade moves to the second Saturday of the month, Dec. 13, starting at 5:30 p.m. This marks the second year of a lighted parade.
Two floats will be chosen the best, unique entries and additional prizes will be given for the best costumes.
The parade will end at the fire hall where Santa will visit with children. As always, expect a huge array of cookies and hot chocolate.
