Mark Pennington to perform at Opera House 11.12.08

Posted in 2008 November

When Mark Pennington sits down at his Steinway Model C grand piano Saturday night at Fayette’s Opera House, he’ll feel some kinship with his surroundings.

The Opera House, he discovered, was built in 1889, the same year his Steinway was manufactured.men_of_note.jpg

Pennington will be joined by five other area musicians—the Men of Note jazz combo—for an evening of classical, jazz and popular styles. Proceeds from the event will be given to the Fayette Arts Council.

Pennington, a business owner from Morenci, has studied piano from the age of six and is known in the area as an accomplished pianist.

His performances generally include a variety of styles and periods, ranging from classical and romantic to hymns, jazz standards, seasonal numbers and patriotic tunes.

His original arrangements of well-known melodies often include “powerful and stirring themes” from Romantic era composers including Liszt and Rachmaninoff.

Men of Note consists of Pennington family members Bryce, Dean, Terry and Jake, along with a family friend, Jamie Clark.

The performance is part of the Fayette Artists Series 2008-09 line-up of events and begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets will be available at the door.
