Glasgow Organ Series opening 10.15.08

Fayette’s Glasgow Organ Series gets underway this month with a guest performer from Chicago.

Organist Gregory Courvorst will perform at 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Fayette Opera House.

Ceurvorst, a native of the Chicago area, is a graduate of Northwestern University and Northern Illinois University where he studied organ, harpsichord and piano performance, improvisation, church music, conducting, music history, theory, aural skills, and keyboard literature and history.

In 2003, Ceurvorst was made a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honors Society.

Ceurvorst serves as the Director of Music Ministries at Gloria Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church, Downers Grove, Ill., where he directs choirs and ensembles, plays the organ and piano, and does planning and administrative work.

In addition to his work as a church musician, he is a well-known teacher and member of the American Guild of Organists, Organ Historical Society, and the Music Teacher’s National Association.

Tickets cost $10, with a $2 discount for senior citizens and students. Group rate are available for 10 or more tickets sold in advance for $6 each group rate of 10 or more at $6 order in advance.
