Onsted Car Show 7.10

Posted in 2008 July

The Mitten Mets, an organization of Nash Metropolitan cars, is meeting Saturday for the group’s 2008 Invitational in conjunction with the Onsted Kiwanis Show Car Nationals at Michigan International Speedway.

The Nash Metropolitan economy car was introduced in the United States and Canada in March 1954. Built in England by Austin to Nash specifications, the 85-inch wheelbase Metropolitan was offered in two-door hardtop and convertible models. It will be the feature show car for this year’s event.

In addition to collector cars from every automotive era, the show also features a muscle car corral and an “under 25” category for vehicles and or participants under 25 years old.

Spectators can cruise the high banks of MIS during the event–billed as the largest one day car show in Michigan.

MIS staff members will offer tram rides around the track for $1 a person, which is donated to charity. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

People mover trams are also available to transport spectators and participants around the infield for a relaxing day of “remembering when” while viewing the exhibits and vehicles.

The show typically has up to 1,000 collector and custom cars on display as well as a juried arts and crafts show, concessions, inflatable fun activities for the kids to enjoy and manufacturer’s displays. The show is in its eighth year at the MIS facility.

Irv Cass, an Elvis impersonator, will give two live performances on Saturday and a sneak preview at Friday night’s kick-off party in the village of Onsted from 6 to 9 p.m.

Admission is $1 for adults and children under 14 are admitted free.

Spectators can enter the infield show by driving through the tunnel under the track at tunnel gate 21 on Brooklyn Hwy., which can be accessed from the south via US-12 or from the north via M-50.

To register for the show, phone 517/467-2558 or 517/467-2161 or visit the website at www.onstedcarshow.com.
