It was Blackie’s weekend on Fayette’s softball diamonds. The Defiance team won the title in both the men’s and co-ed divisions.
Blackie’s made it through the men’s division undefeated, finishing ahead of Team Diesel (6-2) from Morenci and Melody’s (2-2) of Fayette.
Other area teams included Stateline Sluggers (0-2) from Waldron and Lantz Drain (0-2). Other teams were from Adrian, Wauseon, Archbold, Sylvania, Monroe and Liberty Center.
Blackie’s lost one game in the co-ed division (5-1)—their first co-ed loss in many tournaments directed by Bob Ford.
Yard Dogs of Lyons (3-2) placed second and Babcock Flooring of Archbold (3-2) was third. Fayette’s City Beverage (0-2) also competed, along with two Adrian teams.
The weather was much better than anticipated, Ford said, and a large crowd watch the action Saturday night.
Co-ed games started about 5 p.m. Saturday, but ended later than expected early in the morning.
TOURNEY—A tournament for men’s and co-ed teams is scheduled July 12 and 13 in Fayette, the same weekend as the Civil War Encampment north of the ball fields.
A double-elimination men’s tournament is scheduled Saturday and Sunday. The $135 entry fee covers balls and umpires.
The co-ed tournament will follow a round-robin format with a guarantee of at least four games. This will be played on Saturday only and the cost is $150.
Trophies and T-shirts will go to the winners.
