A suspicious situation Friday at Morenci Area High School resulted in a threat alert through the Honeywell notification system.
Shortly before students were released Friday afternoon, a suspicious drawing on a bathroom stall was reported to staff members. Morenci police chief Larry Weeks isn’t providing details of the drawing while an investigation is underway, but he characterized it as suggesting a threat to those in the school.
“It was not a specific threat,” Chief Weeks said, “but just as a precaution, we’re handling it as a bomb threat.”
Weeks said he believed the building was secure after police and staff inspected the school.
Weeks expressed concern that people might become “somewhat immune” to threats since this was the fourth one made within a period of about two months.
Students are not considering the ramifications of making threats, he said. Two students from the previous three threats have been charged with making false threats.
