Anyone willing to help out the Fayette Lions Club with a military care package project has to act fast. The deadline for contributing is noon Friday.
Clubs in the northwest Ohio district are collecting items to send overseas. Donations collected locally, said Jana Beaverson, will be taken Friday to the district convention in Findlay.
Collection boxes are located at D&R Hardware, the post office, Huntington Bank and Beaverson Insurance. A list of suggested items is also available at each location.
Homemade items cannot be shipped, Beaverson said, so only commercially-wrapped products should be donated.
Desired food items include canned food, meat products either canned or in a pouch, powdered drinks such as hot chocolate, instant coffee and powdered soft drink mixes, snack food, dry cereal, jerky, chewing gum, hard candies and dry fruit.
Health and hygiene products include foot powder, eye drops, floss, chap stick, sinus medication, Tylenol, Advil and sanitary wipes.
Boxes will be sent to dozens of personnel serving in the Middle East, Beaverson said, including Jenny McKinney and Troy Shoemaker.
