Posted in 2008 March

Two Morenci members of the Lenawee Vo-Tech Center FFA club received State Farmers Degrees at the Michigan FFA convention March 7-9 at Michigan State University.

Morenci seniors Dereck Perryman and Jessica Lietzke both earned State Farmer awards and also participated on the Ag Issues team that earned a silver medal at the state contest.

Other team members were Amber Thomas of Sand Creek, Beth Mills and Gary Fall, Jr., of Deerfield and Rachel Travani of Tecumseh.

Perryman earned his State Degree through a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) in cash crops at the farm operated by his father, Scott.

Perryman was involved in all aspects of record-keeping for his crop project—seed and fertilizer costs, production costs,  etc.—and machinery upkeep.

Lietzke’s SAE was in livestock production. Working at Tim Halliwill’s farm near Clayton, Lietzke raised dairy feeder calves during her two-year project.

She’s also taken dairy feeder calves to the Lenawee County Fair.
