Morenci school board candidates 1.28

Two Morenci Board of Education members will seek another term in office when their positions expire this summer.

Carrie Dillon joined the Morenci school board in 2005, filling an unexpired term vacated by Brad Heiple.

Gary Ries has served two full terms since he was first appointed to the board in 1999 to fill a vacancy.

Anyone intending to seek a seat on the board must file a nominating petition by 4 p.m. Feb. 13. The election is scheduled May 6 and the four-year terms begin July 1.

Michigan election law allows candidates to forgo the nominating process by filing a non-refundable filing fee of $100. The fee must by paid by Feb. 13.

Nominating petitions are available at the board of education office on Page Street or at the Morenci city hall on Orchard Street.
