Isobar reviews October weather 11.07

A gentle month, says George Isobar.

That’s how Morenci’s climate observer describes the past month of weather. Light on the rain, light on the cold, nothing even close to snow.

“To say it was light on the cold is an understatement,” Isobar said. “It was a remarkable 7.2° above average for the month in Toledo.

“Every year we hear a report that it’s been the warmest or one of the warmest years on record, but even among those warm years, 7.2° above for a month is really a lot. I suppose we’ll pay for it this winter. Things often tend to even out.”

The high of 89° Oct. 8 wasn’t quite a record-setter, Isobar said, but it was mighty close.

“We had a really unusual four days from Oct. 5-8 in which the daily average was about 20° above what’s expected that time of year.”

In Morenci the temperatures were 87°, 88°, 87° and 88°. After that, Isobar said, the temperature moderated, but there were still six more days in the 70s, including one day as high as 78°.

Only seven days were below the average, and none by very much. Oct. 12 proved to be the most abnormal, with a high of 53° and a low of 34°.

A low of 28° was recorded in the morning Oct. 28 and 29. The temperature dipped into the 20s on three occasions.
