Larry Weeks running for county sheriff 10.31

Morenci Chief of Police Larry Weeks is hoping to use the rapport he’s built with area police departments into successful management of the county sheriff department.

Weeks officially kicked off his bid last week for election to the post of Lenawee County Sheriff when he spoke with county commissioners Thursday.

His entry into the field will place him in a primary election in August 2008 against the other two candidates who have stated their intentions, Al Navarro and Malcolm Winn.

Weeks said he has no dissatisfaction with his current job as Morenci’s chief nor with the community. If elected, he intends to continue living here.

“I enjoy living here and I feel that my family is invested in the community,” he said. “My children’s education is important and Morenci schools are fulfilling that.”

His decision to run for sheriff stems from a desire to advance his career in law enforcement.

“From a personal standpoint, I’ve worked hard to improve my skills and education,” he said. “I’m confident I can apply those skills to the Sheriff’s Department and improve on the services offered.”
