Morenci lumberyard open again 9.26

Morenci has a lumberyard again with the opening last week of Morenci Building Supply. Customers will see some familiar faces behind the counter.

Todd Lacy, who was employed at the former Lenco Building Supply, has reopened the business with ownership shared by members of his family. Lenco owner Bob Axe closed the business and filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.

Lacy said he’s been slowly working through legal roadblocks for about three months in an effort to get the business open again.

The Adrian native and Wauseon resident worked in sales for the Andersen window company for about 10 years before joining Lenco.

Jim Jarrell and Chuck Beck have returned to work for Lacy and there are two other former employees Lacy intends to bring back once the business becomes established again.

“I’ve been pleased with the response already,” he said after only three days in operation. “It’s busier than expected.”

Lacy has concerns that contractors might have established new business relationships with other lumberyards since Lenco’s closure, but Jarrell said so far that  doesn’t seem to be the case.

Lacy said the store is fairly well stocked, although he hasn’t yet chosen all of his suppliers. He’s planning a grand opening in late October.

“We have lots of experience and we’ll be offering the same services as before,” he said.

Hours will remain the same, also: 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

Lacy looks forward to a hands-on approach to management with involvement in all aspects of the business.

“That’s my mentality,” he said.
