The winning bid in an auction placed a Morenci fourth-grade student in the passenger seat of Morenci’s police cruiser last week.

Clayton Borton won the opportunity to spend a day with the Morenci Chief of Police when his mother was the high bidder for a unique silent auction item at Morenci Elementary School’s PTO Fun Night.

“I didn’t know what it would be like,” Clayton said, “but it’s been pretty cool.”

Clayton, dressed in a police uniform he wore for Halloween, followed Chief Larry Weeks  through some routine business for the day, and also took part in some special activities such as lifting fingerprints from a couple of Coke cans in the police office.

“It was just like on TV,” Clayton said.
