The Fayette park board was named one of three in a state district to win a Healthy Ohioans Park and Recreation Community Award.

Representatives from the village and its partner, the Fulton County Heart Health Coalition, will be honored at an award luncheon.

Fayette’s park program finished third with a bronze award behind Fremont and Miami County.

The village and the county heart group have worked together to bring physical fitness and nutrition programs to Fayette, said Rachel Kinsman of the Fulton County Health Department, and the efforts are paying off.

Kinsman said candidates for the award complete a self-assessment tool that enables a review of programs and policies. The top three point-winners earn the awards.

The assessment form covers topics such as physical activities geared to specific age groups; youth athletic activities that provide financial assistance for low-come participants; collaborative programs with the school; and collaboration with health agencies and service organizations.

Special projects in Fayette include the community garden, Moving Mondays walking program, a monthly health message on the Village Green signboard, and the Fayette Focus monthly informational brochure.
