Early retirement seems to be catching on in the Morenci school district.
An early retirement incentive package approved by board of education members last December resulted in three veteran teachers ending their careers here. Several more plan to follow next year.
“I hate to see them go, but it’s going to help out the district financially,” board president Dwight Mansfield said.
Superintendent of schools Kyle Griffith agreed, noting that a great loss of talent results from the retirements, but adding that incentive packages are attractive to the district during times of financial difficulty.
Griffith said that four additional teachers have made a commitment to accept the early retirement a year in advance.
