The third weekend in July should ring a bell in the minds of Morenci area residents—those who love garage sales, in particular.
July 21 is fast approaching, but arriving even more quickly is the registration deadline for Morenci’s annual community-wide garage sale event.
Coordinator Gail Johnson reminds residents that the deadline to sign up is at 5 p.m. Saturday. Registration blanks are available at Johnson’s Hardware and one is published in this week’s Observer.
Paying the $5 registration fee helps pay for widespread advertising of the event and also places the sale on a map showing locations and giving brief descriptions of items available. Maps will be available in downtown stores on the morning of the event.
Those who register will also receive an official community-wide garage sale sign to post in their yard the morning of the sale. The sign doesn’t mean the bargains are any better; it just gives participants the satisfaction of knowing they supported the annual event where others just rode along for the fun.
Last year’s sales drew one of the largest number of participants ever with 116 registrations.
