Storm damage in Fayette 7.04

Posted in 2007 July

Vickie Kirkland of Fayette contacted the village hall last week about checking the condition of two trees in front of her Gross Street residence.

That was Tuesday, June 26. Less than 24 hours later, there was only one tree standing. The other had toppled onto her house, causing extensive roof damage and tearing off some siding.

Village administrator Tom Spiess said he wasn’t aware of the condition of the trees before Kirkland’s report since neither appeared on the list of trees in need of trimming or removing.

A storm that blew through the area about 6 p.m. June 27 uprooted the tree and caused additional damage in the Grove park.

The strongest wind seemed to be confined to a narrow swath that cut through the village toward the school and on into the Grove, said police chief Rick Kline. Branches littered yards throughout the area, but not in the remainder of the town.
