Unlicensed tattoo parlor operating 6.13

There’s no place in Morenci to obtain a tattoo, says Morenci police chief Larry Weeks—at least no legal establishment.

Chief Weeks told city council members Monday that he had investigated reports of a person giving tattoos and issued an ordinance violation notice.

Morenci has no law governing tattooing, Weeks said, but a county ordinance requires licensing through the Lenawee County Health Department. Because of that, he will have to rely on a sheriff’s department deputy to handle enforcement of the issue.

Weeks was especially concerned when he learned that children under the age of 18 were obtaining tattoos. County law specifies that parental permission is required for underage children.
