At the occasion of his retirement from store ownership, Adam Johnson was honored by Kiwanians as a key player in many Kiwanis projects such as the annual Rex Riley Soup and Pie Supper and the American Flag project. His wife, Gail, has also been deeply involved in many Kiwanis efforts.

"I don't think Kiwanis could have achieved any of our projects without the help of Adam and Gail," said club member Rosemary Dickerson.

Matt Garrow said he knows Adam as a "great hustler" in obtaining community support for Kiwanis projects.

Bob Green recalled one of the early years of the Soup and Pie Supper. Kiwanians brought pots of soup that would be combined into common varieties. All the vegetable soup would be mixed together, all the chicken and noodle would go together, etc., but Adam brought in something that had to stand alone. He asked Adam what was in it and he was told it was beer and cheese soup.

Larry Weeks said he's been involved with many groups during his career, but he's not sure if any of them could match the passion of the Morenci Kiwanis Club in its projects.

"It's hard to live up to the standards set by this club," he said.

Johnson stated his appreciation for the kind words, adding, "I'm glad you included Gail's role. She's done a lot more than you know."
