Trading Faces

The faces feature in the April 30 Observer wasn't put together correctly at all. Here's what I should have done:

One of America’s leading plastic surgeons will speak Sunday afternoon at Stair Public Library. His visit got us thinking about his line of work. Sometimes he receives a request to “Make me beautiful.” Make something bigger or make something smaller or make something disappear. Other times a person with an abnormality comes into  his office, or someone disfigured by an accident. Then the request is simply “Make me normal.”

We decided to try some digital surgery, to play around with the features of a few Morenci residents. We quickly discovered this: A feature that looks entirely right on one person just doesn’t fit on another. One person’s normal-looking mouth, for example, suddenly appears a little strange when placed on another face.

The facial features traded here range from those of a 1-year-old girl to an 88-year-old man.
