2012.12.12 Nancy Lavinder: Taking Christ out of Christmas

Posted in Letters

My husband and I attended our granddaughter’s (holiday) program last Tuesday night at the school. The children did a great job, but I was appalled at the content of the program. If the word Christmas was mentioned I missed it.

Our society is so concerned about offending someone. Well, I as a Christian, am offended.

We are no longer supposed to say Merry Christmas, it’s Happy Holidays and it’s not a Christmas program it is a holiday program. Our White House now has a holiday tree instead of a Christmas tree.

All these people that are taking Christ out of Christmas, I’m sure they enjoy the day, days or weeks they have off to celebrate the birth of Christ. We need to remember the reason for the season.

Our country is in a mess. I believe we need to put religion back into our country instead of taking it out.

Merry Christmas and God bless us all!

Editor’s note: The event was promoted as the school Christmas program.

In regard to the White House no longer having a Christmas tree, that’s an urban legend that’s been debunked before. Again this year, President Obama received the official Christmas tree.

The rumor apparently started when George W. Bush was president and decorations were submitted for one of the White House trees with the request that no political or religious themes should be used.
