2012.07.25 Josh Sutherland: Turbines provide energy of the future

Written by David Green. Posted in Letters

The issue of the looming wind farm ordinance has been an issue of great debate as of late. I, like many others, would rather not have them in our back yards, but do we have the means to change history or to write the future?

We are more than willing to use these fossil fuels with out end, and more willing to use these despite the thought of the offshore oil rigs that (as we recently witnessed) can spew thousands, if not millions, of gallons into our oceans and shorelines. Just because the oil wasn’t lying in our front yards it’s not a big deal? What about the strip mine operations for our ore that leave nothing but destruction in their wake?

There is a lot of loose, if not misleading, information in circulation about the wind farms and I urge you to dig deep and find the facts. Let’s not play telephone with the facts and regulations, not to mention the countless jobs that would be forever infused into our economy.

The design, manufacture, construction, and maintenance would be great assets to a great country, a country that I want to be proud to leave to my children and their children to come. With great power comes great responsibility and we have the power to lessen our footprint and start the energy revolution.
