FROM THE LEFT, Landon Wilkins, Ryan White and Logan Blaker try out their artistic skills Saturday afternoon at the Morenci PTO’s first Date to Create event. More than 50 people showed up to create decorated planks of wood to hang from rope. The event served as a fund-raiser for miscellaneous PTO projects. Tom Spiess: Many working together for success 2011.10.05

Congratulations to those Fayette and area residents who work tirelessly to sponsor events that benefit our community.

Even though the weather was not as cooperative this year as in past years, the community groups and individuals that stepped  up to organize, support and operate the 2011 Bull-thistle Festival, the Music Fest and the Fall Fest are to be congratulated and thanked for their efforts.

Each of the aforementioned events afforded community organizations an opportunity to develop support for the projects they sponsor while at the same time enjoying the fellowship of neighbors and friends.

Dollars raised at these events have gone a long way toward making our community “livable.”  Think of all of the facilities and opportunities we enjoy that are funded by income earned at these events.

If you don’t know how community organizations use their funds, simply ask someone in the organization or join the efforts by lending a hand.

Also, if you are looking for community leaders, stop by a booth and look into the faces of those dipping the ice cream, making the French fries, directing the parade, setting up the stage, mixing the milk shakes, operating the games, serving the coleslaw, marking the spaces, posting the flyers or simply lending a hand.

Too often we hear cynics suggest that there are better and smarter ways to support our community. The door is always open for new ideas and efforts.
