2011.06.22 Chip Connin: Let the election results stand

Posted in Letters

To those who are trying to recall our elected officials:

You should be ashamed.  We live in a Republic which is quickly devolving into a Democracy. But even in a Democracy, when an election happens the winners and the losers live with the results until the next election. Our elected officials ran on platforms of balancing the budget for the most part, and let us know as they were doing it that it would be shared sacrifice and that we would all have reason to complain, but that if these painful changes weren’t made, the budget problems would grow and the solutions would be even more painful. We elected them anyway. They have diligently been trying to keep their promises knowing that unpopularity would be the result.

Now many of us are giving in to Democrat scare tactics and becoming the “Flip-Floppers” that we demonized John Kerry for being in the ‘04 election. Yes, pensions will be taxed, but not Social Security, and not the majority of pensions. If you make enough to feel the pinch of the tax man, then you make enough to afford it. Suck it up and be a proud American who is trying to preserve an America for their kids and grandkids. Quit trying to take the sleazy way out with recalls. If you think a law is bad, fight it in court as the conservatives are with Obama care.

Finally, we have those who appear to be honest in office, let’s keep it that way and not give in to the sore losers who will try anything including putting fake “Tea party” candidates on the ballot to suck votes from the folks they are afraid of. Think with logic and intellectual reasoning and not with your wallet, or you will lose more than your money in the end. Stick with those with morals and not propaganda on their side. I am a union man who has spent a lot of time laid off in recent years, and I say we should stick with Governor Snyder, Representative Jenkins, and State Senator Caswell. They are doing exactly as they were elected for.  – Chip Connin
