It really doesn’t seem that it has been three years since me and by bride of 25 more or less years moved to Morenci. Our move was spurred by a grandparent’s need to share in soccer, softball and basketball contests, no matter the outcome or tears shed in the agony of defeat or the smiles of victory.
A few other considerations when making the decision to purchase the big brick house were running through my mind. My concern was the quality of public service, such as fire, EMS, and to much less a concern, the police. My bride and I are no longer what you might call spring chickens and public protection and service is of great importance to us.
During the soul testing time of the past two weeks which involved the three youngsters and a still undetermined outcome, my questions were all answered. Our public service people stood tall and represented the citizens of Morenci above and beyond the call of duty. We are very fortunate to be protected by caring, and professional people.
That being said, I also have a renewed sense of faith in my fellow citizens. The citizens that I speak of are not only from the Morenci area, but from many miles away that assisted in the search for the young children. I stood there in the parking lot of the grocery store in total amazement of the people boarding buses to brave the harsh weather to walk for miles to search the countryside.
I personally feel that the community in which I reside is safe and well protected. I am also now quite sure that we all should feel better about ourselves and know that the people of Morenci are willing to help those in need and do it without reward or recognition. To these people I say, “Good Job and God Bless.”
