2010.02.17 Shirley Vanderpool: "No" on recall

Two of our township officials are being recalled for allegedly being rude and disrespectful and also for voting in favor of enforcing a special use permit for Mrs. Cordts’ child care facility on Weston Road. The vote was 3-2. I’m wondering why the two ladies are being recalled but not the man who also voted in favor of the township zoning ordinance as it is written.

At the township meeting Nov. 18, 2009, Mrs. Cordts said she was visited by a representative from the Michigan Dept. of Human Services and was told to construct a fenced 6 foot by 10 foot area for the safety of toddlers since her day care is located near Weston Road. Mrs. Cordts also stated she constructed the fence 8 foot by 24 foot. If it wasn’t needed, why did she build the fence that size?

On Jan. 20, 2010, Mrs. Cordts wrote that it is not about the fence. Then I ask, why has she written she also doesn’t need a fence put up, when she has already written that the Dept. of Human Services said she did and that she built one? On Jan. 27, 2010, she wrote that the planning commission issued her a special use permit under the supervision of the State. But she says it’s not about the fence.

Seems to me the two ladies and one man voted the right way in the beginning. It also seems the two ladies have had their names dragged through the mud. Other people in the township have had to abide by Township Zoning Ordinances. Mrs. Cordts’ land also butts up to farm land, so I would think she would want a fence for the children’s protection.

I urge the residents of Seneca Township to go to the polls Feb. 23 and vote “No” on the recall.
