After a few days of rest and a little time to reflect back on the events of the weekend, I feel compelled to let everyone know about the wonderful people we have living here in our community.
I have worked on the Town and Country Festival for four years now and every year we ask for help in some way, shape or form. This year our schedule was a little hard to fill for lack of funds and it wasn’t easy to find inexpensive quality entertainment. Bonnie Kime approached me and asked if we were going to have Charles Elliott perform and I had to tell her that we would love to but we didn’t have the money that he required to come. She politely asked that if she and her family raised the money, would we fit him in. I responded “of course we would,” since we have tried to book him in the past and hadn’t been able to.
It didn’t take them long to get started, and sure enough soon they had the money raised to have him come. After raising that money she took it upon herself to help in the fight to raise money for the fireworks, also. That, I believe, is a wonderful citizen of Morenci, and I think that we can all take a few notes on how to support our community. I would like Bonnie and her family to know that we appreciate all they have done.
If we all give a little bit of ourselves to helping events like the Town and Country Festival become successful, we will be able to make sure those events still take place.
I have to tell you that I was considering stepping down this year after it was such a struggle to get a festival going, but the hope that I have seen in this town this year and all the people who stepped up and helped make it happen, has renewed my excitement about the festival and what we can do as a community. Thank you so much for your support.
