2009.04.29 Tracy Schell: Pleased with support of senior citizens

Posted in Letters

I want to thank everyone who came to the city council meeting April 27th.  It is always nice to see folks come out to show their support, their dissent, or speak their mind on issues.

It is no secret that I am not a councilor that comes to the table without an opinion. I also have no problem speaking up when it comes to those opinions.  But, I am not stubborn enough to not hear others out and consider their side of an issue.

Monday night was one of those meetings. I felt strongly (and still do) that ProMedica had not done their part in making the Charles Fay Village available to the seniors in our community. No advertising, pricing (although some would disagree with me on that point), and constantly changing plans were just a few of the reasons that led to this feeling of disappointment.

But...they are a business, and businesses need to make money.  Since there was never a time when Fay Village was even close to being filled to capacity, I can understand where they think that it is not possible to keep and that no other businesses would be interested in purchasing it as an independent or assisted living facility.

What I DO appreciate is that they are still keeping the seniors in our community the focus of this facility. If there isn’t a need for a place for them to live, then at least we can use this building for our seniors in a different way. We have MANY seniors who take advantage of the senior center and I hope they will enjoy and appreciate their new, and much nicer, surroundings.
