In response to last week’s editorial regarding the fire siren: I agree it is loud, especially when you have two small children trying to sleep through the blast. But being a 13-year member of the Morenci Fire Department and a five-year employee of Morenci Area EMS, I would like to say, “Hats off to the men and women who respond when that particular noise is annoying someone that isn’t actually in need of it at the time.”

I worry about the responding individuals and their families every time the siren blows, not to mention the person or people needing them. I am grateful that our city has such a dedicated group of fire and EMS personnel. I am even more grateful for the pager going off at 2 a.m. as I am for the siren alerting the rest of Morenci that someone needs help and there are people ready to respond.

One more note, when we have more than one ambulance call at a time, or one right after another, there is no one at the ambulance station to shut off the siren. And on the first call that goes out, the last thing on our minds is who has to shut their door to stop the blast from interrupting their day, because it is just the beginning of ours.
