My dear owner,

You know how much I appreciate all you do for me. You feed me, walk me, play with me and show me you love me. I love living at your house and show you that I love you, too.

I try to be a really good dog but sometimes if I can get away for a fast run by myself, I do. I usually head for all the nice neighbors on North Street (between Walnut and Congress) as they are all dog lovers. I have had conversations with all the guys—Tuckler, Murphy, Justice, Buddy, Bean and Shady.  Their owners all treat me well. They know that if I am friendly and sit when told that I will get a pat on the head and scratch behind the ears.

These folks would gladly call you and let you know that I am at their house but you have forgotten to put a name tag with your phone number on my collar. Please make a stop at the vet’s office and buy me a name tag! This way you will get a phone call that I am hooked up with a cool bowl of water nearby, just waiting for you to come get me.

These nice dog lovers won't have to call the police to have Frank or Don pick me up, or worse yet, have to witness me running across North Street and not making it all the way.

And those of you who are owners of some of my friends, I know that your buddy will never leave your yard, but just in case he does, please take a few minutes to invest in a name tag with your phone number on it. Because you love your pal, too, they will never be lost.

 – Barkfully yours,

Your best friend (as told to Kathy Schiermyer, North Street)
