I would like to address the upcoming millage renewal for Morenci Area Schools.

I have been hearing both positive and negative comments concerning the bond issue. As an employee of Morenci Area Schools in the capacity of custodian, I know first hand many of the issues that this bond/millage renewal would address and why we should vote “yes.”

The millage would help cover the asbestos flooring removal and replacement at the elementary school. This is needed, because the floor tiles are loose and breaking up. Many tiles have already broken and are being held together by duct tape. Many of the classroom floors won’t hold wax.

This millage would also address the very old and outdated plumbing in the elementary building. Many of the faucets in the bathrooms and classrooms are broken. We have leaking toilets, as well as ones that don’t flush or don’t stop flushing. Drinking fountains in the classrooms and hallways are not in working order most of the time. Privacy walls in the restrooms are rusting and have large holes in them.

This bond/millage renewal will not raise taxes, but provide funds to make the necessary improvements to our school buildings.

Please vote “yes” for our kids.
