I am a student at Morenci High School. I have learned enough about our national economy in class to know that it’s not good and financial times are hard. The bond proposal being considered for our schools, however, will not raise your taxes. Your taxes will remain the same as last year and continue at this rate for the next five years.

Passing this bond means many needed repairs will be made at the elementary school such as replacing asbestos floors, updating the bathroom facilities, repairing the roof and paving the parking lot. In the high school the exterior doors will be replaced/repaired, showers will be replaced, the wrestling/alternative education room will be completed (wrestlers currently practice in the cafeteria and the alternative education class is currently housed in the drama room—a room painted entirely black) and the gym will be updated with new bleachers and a refinished floor.

Because of the current poor condition of the track, there will be only one home track meet this year. However, with the passing of this bond, the track will be repaired.

The internet server is outdated and often inoperable, and the wireless connection often doesn’t work. Your “yes” vote means teachers’ grading software will be fully operational and the technology will be updated system wide.

These changes will increase student safety and student achievement. Protect the investment of our buildings, and increase pride in our school system for community students and teachers.

Please vote “yes” on Tuesday, May 6.
