Doyle E. Gillespie, 73, of Lyons, Ohio, died Feb. 26, 2006 at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio.
He was born March 26, 1932 in Lyons, Ohio, the son of Forest and Gladys (Gleckler) Gillespie. He married Ellen Densmore on June 26, 1954 in Pittsford, Mich., and she preceded him in death Oct. 9, 1997.
Doyle was a lifelong Lyons resident. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked with his father, and in 1958 bought what is now Doyle Welding. He was a fireman with the Lyons-Royalton Fire Department for 43 years and a Fulton County Deputy for 25 years.
He was a member of the Lyons VFW Post #7574, the 40 et 8 in Adrian, the American Legion Post #368 in Morenci, and the Masonic Lodge in Wauseon, Ohio. He also played drums in the Michigan Weekenders Band for many years.
Doyle is survived by two daughters, Luann (and Mel) O’Hara of Lyons and Vicki Smith of Swanton, Ohio; a son, Steve (and Sharon) Gillespie of Lyons; six grandchildren and one brother, Ivan Gillespie of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m today (Wednesday) at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. Mary Burroughs officiating. Burial will follow in Lyons Cemetery.
