Bonin, Marcel "Frenchie"

Marcel “Frenchie” Bonin, 82, of Coomer St., Morenci, died May 13, 2007, at Swanton Health Care in Swanton, Ohio. 

He was born May 11, 1925, in Ruffey, France, the son of Louis and Marthe (Guerard) Bonin. He married Joyce Disbrow on May 11, 1963, in Fayette, Ohio, and she  survives.

Frenchie was formerly employed at Dayton Walther in Fayette, retiring in 1988, after 36 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy in Fayette. He enjoyed selling produce at the Hillsdale County Fairgrounds, and was known as the “banana man.”

Besides his wife, Frenchie is survived by a daughter, Michelle (and John) Skelly of Toledo, Ohio; a granddaughter, Katelynn Skelly; a sister, Jeannette Tidwell of Morenci; a brother, Raoul (and Simone) Bonin of France; a sister-in-law, Marlene Disbrow of Lyons, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Harvey Disbrow of Morenci; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mercy in Fayette, Ohio. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci.

Visitation is planned at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci from 4  to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a scripture service at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Morenci Fire and Rescue or Our Lady of Mercy.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
