Genevieve Rose Randall will tell you that she doesn’t like competition, but with some encouragement, she entered the Texaco Country Showdown a day before the deadline and won the local round of the contest.
She wasn’t expecting to win, but now that she has, she is “on cloud nine” and really excited for the next stage of competition.
The 19-year-old rural Morenci resident has used her talent for singing and playing guitar for a decade, starting out on a karaoke machine at age 9.
When she’s on the stage, seeing people smile makes Genevieve happy. She plays a lot of older country songs that many listeners love, but are surprised to hear. She’s often asked, “How do you know these songs?”
Genevieve has written some of her own songs, but she is only just getting started in songwriting. A dream of hers would be to some day sing at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Continuing on in the competition, Genevieve will perform Aug. 9 in the state portion at Bay County Fair in Bay City, Mich. The winner of the state finals will move on to national contest, with the winner receiving a recording contract and $100,000.
Some of Genevieve’s upcoming local performances include Adrian First Fridays at 6 p.m. June 7 at the Pavilion and the Lenawee County Fair July 27.
