Phyllis Green, 84, formerly of Morenci, Mich., died Oct. 23, 2012, at Spectrum Health in Reed City, Mich.

She was born March 11, 1928, in West Unity, Ohio, the daughter of Doyte and Rena (Porter) Rich.  On June 8, 1951, she married Amos M. Green, Jr., in Morenci.  He preceded her in death on July 24, 1988.

Phyllis was a homemaker who worked as a correspondent for the Adrian Telegram and as a nurses's aide for a number of years.  Besides residing in Morenci, Phyllis spent many years in Hillsdale, Mich., Aiken, S.C., and Evart, Mich.  She was a member of the Morenci American Legion Auxiliary, the Morenci First Baptist Church, the Hillsdale First Baptist Church, the Marion Street Baptist Church in Aiken, and the South Side Free Will Baptist Church in Aiken.

Phyllis is survived by three daughters, Debra MacDonald of Evart, Janice Scott of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Maureen (and Tommy) Walling of Warrenville, S.C.; one son,  Keith Green of Aiken; a brother, Robert Rich of Rushville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-step-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Amie Jo, in infancy; a son, Terrel in 2008, and a infant grandson, Douglas MacDonald.

Funeral services are planned at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of service.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
