Jean I. Carpenter, 86, formerly of Alvordton, Ohio, died June 3, 2012, at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice in Defiance, Ohio.

She was born June 11, 1925, in Wauseon, Ohio, to the late Harvey H. and Mable (Miller) Larned. She married Lester R. “Bud” Carpenter on Feb. 5, 1949, in Brunersburg, Ohio, and he preceded her in death Sept. 15, 2000.

Jean lived her early life in Wauseon, where she graduated from high school. She was employed at Fayette Tubular Products for more than 20 years, and was a member of the Fayette American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She is remembered for her enjoyment of sewing, cooking and baking.

Jean is survived by three sons, David (and Donna) Carpenter of Freeport, Ohio, Rick (and Cheryl) Carpenter of Montpelier, Ohio, and Tony (and Traci) Carpenter of Alvordton; three daughters, Darlene (and Ford) Hollstein of Camden, Mich., Paula (and Doug) Herman of Fayette, and Cindy (and Larry) Fry of Edgerton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Tejkl.

Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chaplin in Fayette, with Pastor Dan VanArsdalen officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Alvordton Fire Department or Defiance Inpatient Hospice.
