Luella Christenson, 85, of Fayette, Ohio, died Jan. 20, 2012, at the Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier, Ohio.

She was born June 22, 1926, in Fayette, the daughter of Marion and Isabel (Taylor) Raker.  On Sept. 21, 1945, in Angola, Ind., she married Leslie Christenson and he survives.

Luella was a farmer’s wife and homemaker living all of her life in the Fayette and Morenci, Mich., area. She enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening.  Luella loved sewing and crafts and taught knitting for the State Line Hustlers 4-H club in Morenci for several years.

Besides her husband, Luella is survived by a daughter, Judith (and Kenneth) Derflinger of Fayette; two sons, Tom (and Nancy) Christenson of Morenci and Ted (and Lynne) Christenson of Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Maynard Raker of Fayette.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Lucinda Bennett.

Funeral services are planned at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. Lynn Kerr officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday and also Tuesday from noon until the time of service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Gorham-Fayette Fire Department.

    HOSE safety—The FireCatt hose testing company from Troy put Morenci Fire Department hose to the test Monday morning when Mill Street was closed to traffic. The company also checks nozzles and ladders for wear in an effort to keep fire fighters safe while on calls.

    BIKE-A-THON—Children in Morenci’s Summer Recreation Program brought their bikes last Tuesday to participate in a bike-a-thon. Riders await the start of the event at the elementary school before being led on a course through town by organizer Leonie Leahy.
