Clifford Earl “Skip” Eckert, 80, of Edgewater, Fla., died Feb. 28, 2011, at the Hospice facility in Edgewater.

He was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, to Sherman and Susan Eckert. His foster parents were Harry and Ruby Stewart of Delta, Ohio.

Skip graduated from Delta High School in 1950. He married Doris Brown on June 23, 1951, and she preceded him in death after 57 years of marriage.

Skip is survived by four sons, Glenn (and Mary) of Delta, Rick of Edgewater, Norman (and Darlene) of Louisville, Ky., and Stacy (and Hedy) of Lake Helen, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace (and Don) Sly of Fayette, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Veda Eckert of Toledo, Ohio; a foster brother, John Stewart of Delta; and a foster sister, Patricia (and Joseph) Gormley of Lancaster, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sherman.

A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Delta Church of Christ in Delta, Ohio.

    TAKE A BREAK—Last Wednesday’s session of Stair District Library’s Summer Reading Program ended with a quiet period in a class presented by yoga instructor Melany Gladieux of Toledo.     THE DERBY—Tyler “Smallpox” Flakne of Minnesota’s Home Run League All-Stars goes for the fence Friday night during the National Wiffle League Association’s home run derby in Morenci. This year the wiffleball national tournament moved from Dublin, Ohio, to Morenci’s Wakefield Park. During the derby, competitors had two minutes to hit as many home runs as possible.     LINED UP—Lengths of pipe were put in place last week along the route of the Rover natural gas pipeline that will stretch from Defiance, Ohio, to Ontario, Canada. Topsoil was removed before the pipes were laid out. The 42-inch diameter pipeline is scheduled for completion in November.
